Title:
Media Central: How to store, publish and manage your digital media content
Synopsis:
Publish your digital video and audio media to OIT's Media Central Service for storage, management, and distribution.

Solution:

Media Central, OIT's media management system, is a central repository used to store, access, and manage digital media. Once media is uploaded to Media Central, customized metadata can be used to organize, tag, search, and manage content quickly and efficiently.

Media Central is also an excellent media tool for managing, converting and distributing video. You can convert media into various file formats for use on multiple platforms including: websites, iPad's, YouTube, Facebook, and Blackboard.

See Princeton Broadcast Center: Media Central Service for more information.

Support Requests
Email questions, support requests, and new account requests to mediacentral@princeton.edu (this will create a ticket assigned to the new "AS Kaltura" queue in OPM). An account is required to access Media Central and begin uploading media.

Integration Requests
Media Central uses the open source Kaltura environment and can connect to systems such as Blackboard, Roxen, and Drupal. At this time at Princeton University, Roxen and Media Central can be integrated, allowing departments to embed their media into any Roxen website. For assistance with this integration please contact roxen@princeton.edu.

Important Update November 2013
Work is currently being done with Kaltura to upgrade the Kaltura Media Console and MediaCentral software. When the upgrade is completed  Kaltura's services will be "in the cloud" and ultimately the decommission of existing on-premises instance of Kaltura and MediaCentral will be on December 2, 2013.  This upgrade will require that you migrate content from you current Princeton instance of Kaltura to the Kaltura service in the cloud. This process will impact you in one or more ways depending on how you use these systems.

If you have embedded videos in your web pages, you will need to update your embed codes so that they point to the copy of the video that is in "the cloud version" of Kaltura.

If you are interested in receiving announcements concerning the Kaltura video asset management system and are not already a member of the kaltura@princeton.edu email distribution list, you can join the list using this web formThe kaltura@princeton.edu list will be used for announcements. There will be several announcements related to the upgrade project, but afterwards expect announcements only occasionally.

Planned outages and other important information related to Kaltura and MediaCentral, including information about forthcoming upgrades, will be relayed using this distribution list.
