Secure Remote Access: Installation & Configuration settings for Windows 8.1 Computers & Tablets (32 & 64 bit)


Solution:

Secure Remote Access (SRA) can be used to access Princeton-specific resources from off-campus. .


  • Install the client software using the following steps:
    1. Bring up the Windows 8 Charm Bar using one of the following 3 methods:
      • Mouse: Point at the top- or bottom-right corners.
      • Keyboard: Press the Windows key + C.
      • Touchscreen: Slide your finger inward from the right edge of the screen.

    2. Select Settings.



    3. Select Change PC settings.


    4. Select Network.



    5. Select Add a VPN connection.



    6. From the VPN provider pull down field, select SonicWall Mobile Connect.
    7. Enter Princeton SRA in the Connection name field.
    8. Enter remote.princeton.edu in the Server name or address field.
    9. Make certain that Remember my sign-in info is checked.
    10. Select Save.



    11. There should now be a connection titled Princeton SRA located under VPN.


    12. Select the Windows key.
    13. To initiate an SRA connection, Repeat steps 1 & 2, then proceed to step 14.
    14. Select the Wireless connection icon, located above Notifications.



    15. Select Princeton SRA, located underneath Connections.



    16. Select Connect.



    17. The Login in to field should contain Princeton University. Select Next.



    18. Enter your Princeton netID and password in the appropriate fields. Select Next.



    19. Your Princeton SRA connection should then be established and will say Connected.


    20. To disconnect from SRA, repeat steps 13 through 16 and select Disconnect.
