Spotfire S+: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Solution:

How can I get Spotfire S+ for my computer?
Students who wish to install Spotfire S+ on their personal computers can download the software at \\files\Licensed\Products\Tibco. There is no charge for the program. The Spotfire S+ license automatically expires at the end of one year so you will need to renew the license each year, while you are a student.

Departments may also obtain Spotfire S+ from Software Sales. Departments who install Spotfire S+ on University-owned computers are charged $100 per year for the license. Please see kb.princeton.edu/8388 for information on how to buy software from Software Sales.

Spotfire S+ is not available for the Macintosh. Macintosh users may use Spotfire S+ on OIT's hats server as well as on the 64-bit server sixtyfour. Please see kb.princeton.edu/9682 for details on 64-bit Unix computing.

How can I access Spotfire S+ on an OIT server?
Spotfire S+ can be accessed by running the command:

/usr/licensed/bin/Splus

on any of the hats cluster servers, and on the 64-bit Linux general use servers lxiv.Princeton.EDU and sixtyfour.Princeton.EDU.

The current supported versions are 8.1.1, 7.0 and 6.1, and they can be invoked by running the following scripts on the above-listed machines.

Version:Script
---------------------------------------

8.1.1:/usr/licensed/bin/Splus 811

7.1:/usr/licensed/bin/Splus 70

6.1:/usr/licensed/bin/Splus 61

Typing /usr/licensed/bin/splus on the command line will invoke S-Plus 8.1.1.

To quit S-Plus, type q() at the prompt.
