Title:
Web publishing: OIT database publishing services for the Web

Synopsis:
Web Publishing: Publish Access, Excel, and Oracle data on the Web

Solution:
9/30/09 Update: The DBToolBox service previously supported by OIT reached its planned retirement date on September 30, 2009. OIT announced the retirement of DBToolBox in September 2004, and has since created alternate web hosting environments for application development as outlined below. For advice and assistance in these web hosting environments, please contact OIT's Departmental Application Services (DAS) group at oitdas@princeton.edu

How to publish Access, Excel, and Oracle data on the web

  • OIT's dotNET Service is appropriate for departments engaged in the business of the University. See OIT dotNET: Departmental .NET Web Service for more information.

  • Princeton's WebLamp service allows departments, programs, and centers access to a pair of LAMP servers for deployment of PHP/MySQL applications. See www.princeton.edu/weblamp for more information or to request an account on WebLamp.

  • You can use OIT's DBToolBox to PHP converter program to transform your DBToolBox - Microsoft Access application into a PHP - Microsoft Access application. This program and the applications it converts do not reside on a LAMP server, but rather a special Windows IIS server running PHP and able to connect with MS Access databases residing on ntfileshare. The DBToolBox to PHP converter is located at the following web address: https://winscript.princeton.edu/convert/ui-stage1.php

  • OIT has created the WebScript service to provide students and staff with a suitable environment for learning about PHP - MySQL scripting. For more information, see:www.princeton.edu/webscript.

  • The Princeton University Instructional Oracle Facility permits members of the Princeton University community to create an Oracle account on the Instructional Oracle database server. Under the Oracle license agreement, these Oracle accounts must only be used for educational and instructional purposes. Please see the web page: www.princeton.edu/~storacle for more information.

  • The Campus CGI Facility allows members of the Princeton University community to run their own CGI programs without having to run their own Web server. Please see the web site: campuscgi.princeton.edu for more information.
