Answers to frequently asked questions regarding Adobe Acrobat and PDF formatting
Solution:
Acrobat Distiller is a licensed application that is part of Acrobat Acrobat
Professional (full version). Most computers only have the free Acrobat Reader
software installed; which can only read PDF files, not create them.
To create a PDF file, you can either purchase Acrobat Acrobat from OIT Software Sales or use the limited PDF-creation capabilities of the "Send ME PDF" printer service. See http://www.princeton.edu/sendmepdf for more information.
University DeSC computer users now have the ability to use Adobe Acrobat Professional from the OIT keyserver. Please see Solution 9521 for more information.
If you are having trouble loading a PDF file using your web browser, try right-clicking on the link and saving the PDF to your desktop, and then double-clicking on the PDF document directly.
Adobe Acrobat Reader can only 'read' PDF files; not create them. To create PDF files, the application Adobe Acrobat is required. Acrobat is not freeware as is the Reader. Information regarding all Adobe applications is available at Adobe's Web site.
