Title:
Dormnet: Hardware and software minimum requirements for 2009-10

Synopsis:
Minimum requirements for new Dormnet subscribers as of 2009-10.

Solution:
The recommended computer configurations for any new computer brought to campus Fall of 2009 equate to those computers offered by the SCI program, including but not limited to:

Macintosh computers

Windows computers

  • OS X (version 10.5 or greater)
  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • AirPort Card (wireless Ethernet technology)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 160GB hard drive (larger recommended if dual platform)
  • Built-in Ethernet
  • Windows Vista Ultimate edition SP1
  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • Integrated wireless Ethernet (802.11 b/g technology)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 160GB hard drive
  • Built-in Ethernet

Although computers with older configurations can and will work sufficiently on the network, it is in the best interest of any incoming student to seriously consider the limitations they will encounter with an older machine not capable of running standard applications supported by the OIT Help Desk.

Refer to the SCI web site to see the models that are being offered to incoming students, and you will see what OIT recommends as the optimum computer configuration for use on the Princeton campus: www.princeton.edu/sci/models.
