Synopsis:

Solution:
The following instructions apply to Exchange accounts and Microsoft Outlook. For more information about Exchange, please see www.princeton.edu/exchange.

The Exchange server retains items deleted from the Deleted Items folder for 30 days. The items can be restored using the Recover Deleted Items feature in Outlook 2000/XP/2003 or Outlook Web Access.

How to recover deleted items in Outlook 2003

  • Highlight the Deleted Items folder
  • From the Tools menu, choose Recover Deleted Items to open the Recover Deleted Items dialogue box
  • Highlight messages to restore
  • Click the folder icon on the toolbar
  • Messages will be restored to the Deleted Items folder

NOTE: After the deleted item has passed its 30 day retention period, it cannot be recovered using the Recover Deleted Items feature. Contact the OIT Help Desk for a Software Support representative visit for possible recovery.
