imap.princeton.edu for the Incoming mail server and
smtp.Princeton.edu for the Outgoing mail server. For the Logon
Information, fill in your NetID in the User Name field (your NetID

not recommended that you Select the Remember password option, but instead
enter your password for each e-mail session to ensure security.

Click the More Settings... button. Select the Outgoing Server
tab and check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication. Select the radio button to Use same settings as my
incoming mail server.
-
Select the Advanced tab. Check BOTH This server requires a secure
connection under Outgoing server (SMTP) as well as Incoming server (IMAP)

The ports will automatically populate with the correct 993 and 25 settings.

-
Click OK, then click Next and Finish.
If after configuring your e-mail application you still receive SMTP server errors and cannot send e-mail, you might be encountering a known incompatibility with certain versions of Norton AntiVirus. Please see Solution 9200 for details.
How to configure Outlook to search for Princeton e-mail addresses in LDAP
If you installed Outlook 2002 out-of-the-box from a CD, Office XP must first be upgraded with the latest service packs and hotfixes in order to properly query the Online Campus Directory. Please see Solution 9429 for instruction. Once updated, you can configure Outlook to search for e-mail addresses from the Princeton University Directory Service (LDAP).
-
Go to the Tools menu and choose E-mail Accounts, then choose
Add a new directory or address book and click Next.

-
Choose Internet Directory Service (LDAP) and click
Next

-
Fill in the Server Name ldap.princeton.edu.

-
Click the More Settings button. Select the Connection tab and
fill in The display name as it appears in the Address Book as
Princeton University.

-
Select the Search tab and fill in the “Search base” with
the following string:
o=Princeton University,c=US

Be careful when typing this in to only put a space between the words Princeton and University.
- Click OK, then click Next and Finish.
To Search: While composing a new message, type a person's name in the To: Field, then click the 'Check Names' icon (which looks like a head with a check mark). If you prefer you can use the keyboard combination of Ctrl + K.

A list of possible e-mail addresses will be shown. Note that in Outlook 2002 you can only search by last name, whereas Outlook 2003 allows first name searches as well.
