McAfee VirusScan may be installed on one personally owned home computers as long as you are a current faculty, staff, or student of the University. If you leave the University, you must uninstall this software from your personal machines.
Solution:
This information applies to all versions of Windows computers. To determine
the version of McAfee on your Windows computer, right-click the McAfee icon
(the small red and white shield in the lower right section of your display)
and select "About VirusScan Enterprise".
Windows Download and Installation
Instructions
Follow these steps in order to successfully install/update your McAfee AntiVirus
program. You must be logged in as a user with administrator privileges
to complete these steps.
McAfee VirusScan 8.7 can be installed on:
- Windows 7 (all editions, 32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Vista (all editions 32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows XP Home and Professional (32-bit and 64-bit) (2GB of RAM recommended, for less RAM use Virusscan 8.5)
- Windows Server 2008 (all editions, 32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2003 Server (all editions,, 32-bit and 64-bit)
McAfee Virusscan 8.5 can be installed on:
- Windows XP Home and Professional (32-bit and 64-bit) (for machines with 1GB of RAM or less)
- Note: Windows 98/ME computers are NOT SUPPORTED for McAfee VirusScan.
- Windows 2000 is no longer supported by the this installer.
Remove all other antivirus software from your computer
Most antivirus software will be automatically uninstalled from your computer
during the installation of McAfee VirusScan. This includes the Princeton
licensed version of Symantec AntiVirus.
Download the installer to your desktop

Using any browser, download McAfee VirusScan from:
https://web.princeton.edu/sites/oitdownloads/McAfee/win/VirusScan_Custom_Installer.zip - You will need to authenticate using your Princeton University netID and password; you may need to type the netID as PRINCETON\netID
Install the latest version of McAfee VirusScan
- Extract the contents of Virusscan Custom Installer.zip to a temporary folder
- Right-click on Virusscan Custom Installer.zip and select Extract All)
- A new folder will be created called "Virusscan Custom Installer"
- Within the folder called "Virusscan Custom Installer" Double-click on the VirusScan_install.exe installer file on your desktop
- You will be asked some questions about your status.
- Windows XP users will be given the choice to install Virusscan 8.5 or 8.7. Windows 2003, Vista, 2008, and 7 will always install Virusscan 8.7

If you are a current student, click Yes (the installer will begin)

If this is a University-owned, departmental computer, click Yes

Indicate your full department name

If you are faculty/staff member and this your personal computer, click
Yes (the installer will begin)

Click the OK button

A black window like the one below will appear on your screen:

When the installer is finished you will receive a prompt stating "To complete
the install of Princeton McAfee VirusScan, this computer will now reboot."
- Click OK to reboot your computer.
- The installation of McAfee VirusScan + AntiSpyware will fully complete when your computer has rebooted.
- If the software needs to update its AV definitions, it will automatically contact the university's central Mcafee EPO server for updates.
Once completely installed you will see the following icon in your lower right-hand corner system tray:
