Viruses: I've been infected with a virus, how do I get rid of it?
Synopsis:
Viruses: Help! I've been infected, how do I fix it?

Solution:

If you are sure that you have been infected with some virus and would like to get help getting rid of it, there are a few options available to you at Princeton:

Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff have several ways to deal with the viruses on their computers. If their department has a SCAD or a DCS representative, they can request that the SCAD/DCS representative help them remove the infection from their machine. If they do not have a departmental SCAD/DCS representative, they have the option of requesting that the Help Desk put them in contact with Software Support, who will be able to help fix their machine as well. Finally, faculty or staff can both take their machine to the Solutions Center at Frist if they wish to have the Solutions Center technical staff to remove the virus for them. Please note that taking your machine to the Solutions Center to take care of a virus can take upwards of two hours, depending on how much hard drive space the Solutions Center will have to scan for viruses.

Students
Students have two ways to request help with removing the virus on their computers. Either they can request that a Residential Computing Consultant come out to their room or they can take their machine to the Solutions Center at Frist. Please note that taking your machine to the Solutions Center to take care of a virus can take upwards of two hours, depending on how much hard drive space the Solutions Center will have to scan for viruses.
