Title:
Secure Shell (SSH): MindTerm java-based SSH client application

Synopsis:
MindTerm is a Java-based SSH client application that can be downloaded to any major browser on Windows, Mac, Linux and UNIX platforms that are Java-enabled. OIT has purchased a site license for the product allowing anyone in the Princeton University community to use the application.Use MindTerm to connect to Unix servers for secure connectivity and password protection.

Solution:
Individuals who need to access a server using the SSH (secure shell) protocol but do not have an SSH client application installed on their local workstation can use MindTerm. This product supports both SSH-1 and SSH-2 protocols and is known to function on the following systems:

  • Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP
  • MacOS 7 or higher
  • Linux
  • Unix
  • Hand-Held devices

Requirements

  • Java run time environment (JRE) that supports Java 1.1x or higher
  • Java enabled browser

To download and open the MindTerm SSH client
See http://www.princeton.edu/~protect/MindTermApplet.shtml. Another browser window will open that will initiate the download and then open an SSH client window. NOTE - This web page automatically downloads the MindTerm SSH client application to your workstation if your workstation has a recent version of the Java Runtime Environment installed. A windows containing the SSH client application will appear prompting you for your University netID and password.

What if you don't have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed?
If you do not have JRE installed, the MindTerm applet will not download, so an SSH window will not open on your PC as it would if you had the JRE. If you have administrative privileges on your computer, you can install the Java Runtime Environment. If you are not an administrator on your PC, you will need to locate someone with those privileges to help you with the install. See http://www.princeton.edu/~protect/MindTermApplet.shtml for more troubleshooting information.
