Troubleshooting: Have I been blocked from accessing the network?
Solution:
Please contact the Help Desk at 8-HELP (4357 option #1) for support in diagnosing
any networking trouble. The links below are for use by OIT staff to determine
if your computer has been made ineligible for networking service. You will
be advised by the Help Desk on how to proceed.
(TUD) Temporary Unregistered Dormnet IP Address Service
Devices
Blocked from Temporary Unregistered Dormnet IP Address Service lists
devices currently blocked from receiving OIT Temporary Unregistered Dormnet
IP Address Service, either because they have been declared Temporary Unregistered
Dormnet Campers, or because they have been declared ineligible for other
reasons.
OIT provides Temporary Unregistered Dormnet IP Address Service (TUD) service to make it more convenient for students to subscribe a new device to Dormnet, or to update their subscription's Host Database entry after replacing a computer with a new (or repaired) computer that has a different Ethernet address. This service is provided for the sole purpose of allowing students to submit Dormnet Subscription forms from their own computers before those computers are receiving normal Dormnet service (because they are not yet subscribed to Dormnet).
For a list of current TUD IP address assignments, see Current Temporary Unregistered Dormnet IP Address Assignments.
OIT Mobile IP Service
Devices
Declared Ineligible for Mobile IP Service lists devices that have been
declared ineligible for Mobile IP Service. For information about the service,
see Mobile
Networking Services. Often this is because the DHCP client operates in
such a way as to interfere with other customers of the service. (Sometimes
this is due to a bug in the DHCP client implementation; sometimes it is due
to misconfiguration of the client.)
Other times it may because the device is the source of inappropriate IP traffic (e.g. an attack directed at other computers or at the network). (Network access for such a device is normally blocked at its present location; if it appears possible that the device might use Mobile IP Service to bypass this block and resume sending such traffic, the device is also declared ineligible for Mobile IP Service.)
