Title:
Outlook: how to add a top level folder in Outlook with a name of your choice
Synopsis:
How can I move an Outlook (IMAP) e-mail folder from IMAP to a local folder? There are three root folders in Outlook (IMAP, Personal, and Archive). I do not want to move it into Personal or Archive, I want a fourth entry called "Work" or something similar.

Solution:

Below are instructions for how to add a top level folder in Outlook with a name of your choice.

You will need to create a new Outlook Data File which creates another "Personal Folders" listing in Outlook.

  • Under the File pull down menu, select New, and then Outlook Data File

You can change the name of the folder using the following steps:

  • Right-click on the newly created "Personal Folders" (it will appear at the bottom of the list)
  • Choose Properties
  • Click Advanced
  • In the Name field, change the name of the .pst file to something descriptive
  • Click Apply and OK through the windows to close them
