Synopsis:
Configuration settings for IMAP e-mail for Microsoft Outlook 2007

Solution:
For general information about supported e-mail clients at Princeton University, please see Configuration settings for Princeton recommended e-mail applications. There you will find a complete list of OIT-supported e-mail programs. To determine if you have an IMAP or an Exchange e-mail account, please call the OIT Help Desk. Note that all students have IMAP e-mail and should use the instructions below.

Office 2007 Upgrade
If you are upgrading from Outlook 2003 to Office 2007, the software will automatically import your e-mail settings. If your e-mail program does not perform successfully, use the instructions below to check your settings.

Office 2007 E-mail Configuration Wizard
If you have not opened Outlook previously and this is not an upgrade from Outlook 2003, you will be presented with an e-mail configuration wizard when first opening Outlook 2007. Note that the windows may appear differently than shown here as Windows 2000 and Windows Vista are slightly different.

For the incoming (IMAP) server, make sure that SSL is selected from the pulldown menu next to Use the following type of encrypted connection: and that TLS is selected under Outgoing server (SMTP) next to Use the following type of encrypted connections. The ports will automatically populate with the correct 993 and 25 settings. Click the OK button.
