Mac OS X: How to schedule a full system scan

1. Click the McAfee shield in the menu bar and select McAfee Security Console


2. Click the plus icon in the bottom left corner of the McAfee Security window

3. Enter a name for the scheduled scan and click Create.

4. Set the following options:

  • What to scan: select the computer name
  • When to scan: select a preferred schedule

5. Click Schedule Scan

6. Click the McAfee Security menu and select Quit


Mac OS X: How to perform a one-time full system scan

1. Click the McAfee shield in the menu bar and select McAfee Security Console

2. Select Scan Now from the sidebar at left in the McAfee Security window

3. Set the following option:

  • What to scan: select the computer name

4. Click Start Scan

Windows: How to schedule a full system scan

  • You must have administrative privileges on your computer to schedule any type of scan.
  • Right-click on the small red and white McAfee icon in your system tray and select Manage Features --> VirusScan Enterprise

  • On the VirusScan Console screen locate and double click on the Full Scan menu option

  • Double-click the Full Scan
  • On the right-hand side of this screen click the Schedule button
  • You will be presented with two tabs, Task and Schedule
  • On the Task tab check the box labeled Enable
  • Below this option you can select a maximum amount of time you want this scan to run for, it is recommended to leave this option blank and simply let the scan run until it has fully completed
  • Below this you can enter a user you wish for this scan to run as. This is useful if you do not have administrative rights on your computer and you want to ensure all system files are sufficiently scanned. If you already have administrative rights on your computer, you can skip over this option leaving the fields blank.
  • Next, we bring up the schedule tab where you can set the frequency, date, time and other setting regarding the scheduling of this scan.
  • Once you have input the schedule information to your liking, click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen then click OK at the right side of the window.
  • Your system scan is now configured and will run at the scheduled time.

Windows: How to perform a one-time manual full system scan

  • You must have administrative privileges on your computer to schedule any type of scan.
  • Right-click on the small red and white McAfee icon in your system tray and select Manage Features --> VirusScan Enterprise

  • On the VirusScan Console screen locate and double click on the Full Scan menu option

  • Double-click the Full Scan
  • On this screen you can choose which files and folders you wish to scan. A full system scan using the default setting is recommended.
  • Click on the start button on the right hand side of the screen.
  • Your full system scan will start and a window will pop-up displaying the progress of the scan.
