Title:
OIT Account Activation Page

To begin, you must read the Princeton University Information Technology Policy.

The Information Technology Policy sets forth the central policies governing all uses of the University’s information technology resources whether administered by the Office of Information Technology or individual departments. As stated in Rights, Rules, and Responsibilities members of the University community are expected to be familiar with and adhere to these policies.

Next, you must activate your University Computing Account by setting your enhanced security profile, which consists of a new strong password, an anti-phishing image/phrase, and three security questions and answers.

  1. Review the instructions for setting your security profile.
  2. Check examples of safe and easy to remember passwords.
  3. Go to the PUaccess page.
  4. To log in, use the University netID and temporary password you received in either e-mail or a paper mailer (see below for details).
  5. Follow the instructions to set your security profile.

After you have activated your account:

  • You are now eligible for University e-mail services. For complete information about how to manage your Princeton e-mail account see the E-mail Account Management Page. Note that all new faculty, staff, graduate students and the incoming Class of 2015 have Exchange e-mail accounts.
  • Enable your Unix account if necessary. Use your University netID and password to access this page.
  • Students, visit the online SCI Store to purchase a Princeton-configured laptop computer.
  • If you have questions about getting on the network, connecting from home, or any other technical issue, contact the OIT Help Desk.
  • If you need help with your netID and temporary password, please call the OIT Help Desk at 609-258-HELP(4357) to assist you in activating your account.

Where your netID/password mailer was sent:

  • Students: You will receive a letter from OIT with your netID and a temporary password. There will be instructions for activating your account, setting your security profile, and changing your password to a secure one. Once this important step is completed, you will have access to your Princeton e-mail account and the University network, and to campus computer resources when you arrive on campus. Student netIDs are mailed to home addresses the summer prior to entering as first-year students, typically late May/early June.
  • Graduate Students: Your OIT account is provisioned when you are admitted, generally in mid-January. You will receive an e-mail notification at the home e-mail address you submitted.
  • Dean of the Faculty hires: New appointees and benefits-eligible main campus new employees receive their netID mailers at their home address; a copy is sent to their department manager. The netID becomes active no sooner than three months before hire date.
  • Human Resources hires: New employees receive their netID and temporary passwords in mailers sent to their home address and home e-mail, if possible; a copy is sent to their department manager. The netID becomes active no sooner than three months before hire date.
  • PPL Employees: netID mailers are sent to PPL Human Resources. The netID becomes active no sooner than 7 days before hire date.
