• Students can use Princeton Google Sites for full integration with other Princeton Google Apps such as calendaring, blogging and wikis. Templates are provided for quick and easy site creation, and all web administration is point and click. At this time OIT can only provide best effort support for Google Sites but the Web is rich with information and instructions.

Student organization and team web pages

• Undergraduate and graduate student organizations as well as sports teams and clubs can request an OIT account for their organization's email address and website. For more information on creating the account see: Solution 3076. To publish web pages, map the Central File Server as your H: drive and save web pages to the public_html folder.
• Student and graduate student organizations can also use the Princeton WordPress service for blogging.Through special arrangement with Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, WordPress is available to all officially recognized student organizations and publications, including those sponsored by ODUS, ORL, and PACE. ODUS serves as both the primary administrative contact and support conduit for student organizations that prefer a blog site.

Personal cPanel web development

• Personal cPanel is OIT’s learning environment and provides a place to learn web scripting (PHP, Perl, etc.) on a LAMP shared server environment. The service is appropriate for students, clubs, organizations and class assignments using database-driven Web applications. For more information see: KB Solution 1123.

• Professors interested in putting their academic course Web pages on Blackboard should see: www.princeton.edu/bb.
• Requests for course blogs associated with courses offered at Princeton may be requested at the WordPress Service website.
• Faculty and staff interested in publishing personal web pages created in Dreamweaver, Sharepoint Designer, or other Web editor should use the public_html directory in their personal folder on the Central File Server. It's easy to map your Central File Server personal folder as your H: drive, and save your web pages to the public_html folder.
• Faculty, researchers, and graduate students interested in publishing individual professional web pages (i.e. an online C.V.) can request a site in Princeton's installation of OpenScholar, an open-source product that is powered by Drupal. Please request a site using your Princeton email credentials at the OpenScholar home page.

Web publishing for University departments

The recommended software to create University departmental and organization websites is the Roxen WCMS. Roxen is supported by the OIT Web Development Services Group which provides training as well as contract design and development services. Departments who desire a basic template-based site can obtain a site free of charge, or a contracted design and development service at a rate of $50 per hour. The core Princeton University website and its associated pages is managed by the Office of Communications using Roxen; they should be contacted if you have any comments or questions.

cPanel for departmental Web application development
This small-scale, shared, development environment allows limited customization using a LAMP environment and is appropriate for departments engaged in the business of the University. It is designed for database-driven web applications that have low network bandwidth requirements and are not CPU-intensive. This system should not be used to build department home pages; departments should use Roxen for that purpose. To qualify for this free service, hosted web applications must be able to coexist on a shared server with many other departmental websites. Dedicated Server Hosting Service
For departments requiring server administration assistance for large-scale, special-purpose software on a departmental Linux or Windows server, OIT offers dedicated server hosting. This service provides server administration and patching, backup and recovery, as well as performance monitoring services in an airconditioned, OIT-maintained and secured facility.
